Through shared experiences and peer support, students can openly discuss their challenges, reducing stigma and promoting healthier coping strategies. Over the past year, Bring Change to Mind, a national mental health nonprofit, has implemented mental health clubs across 40+ high schools in San Diego County. Join to learn from students' firsthand experiences in implementing their peer-led mental health clubs and discover practical strategies for supporting such initiatives in your own educational environment.

Jennifer Ogo - Kearny High School BSTDescriptionThe Epidemiology and Immunization Services Branch (EISB) of Public Health Services (PHS) assisted in the development of a school education program aimed at high school students in all San Diego County school districts to increase students’ knowledge of public health topics and careers. The Epidemiology School Education Program is comprised of four components:
1. Public Health Peer Education Program (PH-PEP)
2. Health Education Topics (HET)
3. Public Health Workforce Speaker’s Bureau (PH-WSB)
4. Public Health Peer Advocate Camp (PH-PAC)In this session, specific activities to be presented include:
- An introduction to the Epidemiology School Education Program, including how the program was established through collaboration with PHS and the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE).
- An overview of the trainings, presentations, and services offered to high school students throughout San Diego County.

Having a diverse and inclusive board or commission is essential. This session will spotlight a panel of youth from San Diego County who have served on boards and commissions or worked to increase youth engagement in those spaces. The panelists will include youth from County, city, and community boards and commissions. The youth panelists will discuss topics including models of youth involvement on boards and commissions, recruitment, training and orientation, organizing youth-friendly meetings, and more.

Kim McDougal - YMCA of San Diego CountyDescriptionThis session will introduce the Child Care Blueprint (CCBP), showcasing the vision, approach, and three overarching goals in response to the child care crisis in San Diego related to workforce support and retention, facility improvements and families’ access to care. The goals provide workforce development opportunities and reduce child care deserts to meet the unique and diverse needs of San Diego families. Strategic steps will explain how successful implementation of the Blueprint hinges on partnerships with key community stakeholders. The panel will describe the development process and share the status of implementation, such as the assembly of three work groups representing each of the Blueprint’s goals.
Available resources that supports the Child Care Blueprint’s goals will be shared, including ARPA funded programming. Time will be allocated for Q & A and feedback from the audience for ideas that support implementation.

The Live Well Center for Innovation & Leadership, an academic-practice partnership between the County of San Diego Health & Human Services Agency and San Diego State University, is uniting to inspire & prepare students to pursue careers in health & human services.
